Howdy! I am a scientist at D. E. Shaw and Company where I am working on problems in computational chemistry in the scientific research group. I did theory and simulation of plasmas, fluids and electromagnetics at the Los Alamos National Lab when I was a technical staff member in the Applied Physics Division Plasma Physics Group (X-1). Before Los Alamos, I had an interlude doing opto-electro-mechanical device modeling at Bell Labs. Prior to Bell Labs, I was a student in the Plasma Theory and Simulation Group at University of California-Berkeley, which is why you can still find these pages here.

My research interests include:
  • Electromagnetics and Plasma Physics
  • Quantum and Optical Electronics
  • Scientific Computing and Signal Processing
My interests are not confined to the above areas; I enjoy challenging problems in any discipline.

My thesis research touched on all these areas (some areas more obliquely than others). You can find a copy of my thesis and related articles at: My thesis received the David J. Sakrison Prize for outstanding research by a student in the Berkeley Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Department and the American Physical Society Outstanding Doctoral Thesis in Plasma Physics Award.

For an informal summary of my activities of the last few years, go to the Gallery of Past Lifes below. For in-depth details of my activities for the past few years, please look at:

I am married. Our first child, Ethan, was born March 28, 2000 (someday I'll get around to scanning in lots of pretty pictures). My beautiful wife Amy is caring for the baby. For pictures of the wedding, take a look at: You can also find pictures of: my trip to Yosemite, our trip to Hawaii and my trip to Japan and South Korea. Someday, there will be another section detailing my trip to Germany for the 50th meeting of Nobel Laureates.
